It saddens my heart how commercialized Christmas has become, yet I too am drawn into the hustle and bustle of the season. All of the commercials and hoopla draw us away from the true meaning of Christmas. The Christ child, which is why we should be reflecting, rejoicing, and celebrating.
So as you step into the final days before Christmas—just pause. Pause for a minute and take a deep breath. Stop all you are doing and let go of the stress and commercialism. Take a few moments to be joyful. Reflect on Christ and His gift of salvation to you.
Rejoice in Christ’s birth. “She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger because there was no lodging available for them. (Luke 2:7)
Rejoice with the angel of the Lord who declared, “The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!” (Luke 2:11)
Rejoice with the shepherds who followed the north star. “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” (Luke 2:15)
Rejoice because the kings protected Jesus and did not return to Herod. “When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.” (Matthew 2:12)
Rejoice, reflect, and celebrate with your family this Christmas. Rejoice—For Christ walked among us, that we too may have eternal life. Reflect—Ponder what Christmas truly means deep in your heart. Celebrate—Make your beliefs known to others. Proclaim that Jesus is your Lord and Savior through your words and actions this Christmas Day and the New Year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
