Misshelved Magic is a Christian fantasy novel which is appropriate for ages 14+

Adelina is content to be a humble librarian with no magic, organizing ordinary books and leaving the magical section of the library to the management of the mysterious creature called a cervara…until she finds a misshelved spellbook that refuses to stay in its proper place. Despite warnings from the College of Magic and her superiors, she decides to return the book to the magical section, where she meets the mysterious creature. Contrary to what she’s been told, the cervara is trying to protect humanity from dangerous magic by hoarding it in the library. But is it also hiding an even greater danger?

Leon is a mage in his final year at the college who needs to write something impressive for his final thesis. But when he befriends the charming Adelina, and she confides her discovery to him, Leon’s world turns upside down. He’s forced to try to mediate between the mysterious creature and the power-hungry magi who surround him, all while trying to pursue his favorite librarian.

Can Adelina and Leon protect the cervara from the world—and the world from the dangers of the library? Or will both sides be destroyed by the secrets they hide and the greed that drives them to seek forbidden knowledge?

Praise for Misshelved Magic: “Misshelved Magic is as surprising as the library within its pages, by turns whimsical, mysterious, and startlingly profound. A charming academic fantasy romance that also offers a nuanced meditation on living and dying well, this book will have you cheering (and crying) with Adelina, Leon, and the cervara until the very last page.” —Mary Jessica Woods, author of Markmaker

The Emotional Shoes Kids Book Teaching kids the healthy way to compete and the value they hold within that lasts far beyond the outcome of the game.

Here is the brief backstory: It all began in a N.I.C.U room for our youngest daughter, Amelia. We have been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters: Noralyn, Eleanor, and Amelia. Our girls love to read, and they were sad they couldn’t see Amelia when she was first born. So, I wrote ideas on paper while I was at the hospital and read Amelia those ideas as well as some of our favorite books.

When you have a baby in the N.I.C.U. It can be hard to not hold them at first or take them home for the parents and siblings. So, we left blankets at her room because our girls believe in the power of their blankets bringing them comfort. That gave me the idea of “emotional apparel” that I can leave with my kids daily as they navigate life. Then, I thought of how my track athletes bought me a pair of shoes and it made me part of the group in a way. Which gave way to the concept of the “emotional shoes.”

So, after two years of thinking on it, as an elementary educator, I decided to write the book. My wife, Lauren, is an E.L. Teacher as well, so we teamed up to get an idea that would have deep meaning hidden in simple words.

Then, I met Erin Johnston on social media and our families stories collided. She illustrated the book, and our dream as a family became this reality.

We are creating this book as part of a series and also part of a big idea of “Compete Better Today.” Reteaching kids, and adults, on how or why we compete. That competing is a way of life, not an end result. It’s in showing up daily to better yourself, but also in striving to make others around you their best as well!
